KCCT Team Recognized for Innovation and Impact at CANstruction 2024

At the 2024 CANstruction DC competition, the KCCT and Simpson Gumpertz & Heger team entry “The Dumpinator: A Can-Do Dump Truck” was recognized for Best Original Design and Most Cans.
Hosted annually by the Washington Architectural Foundation, CANstruction brings together local architecture, engineering, and construction firms in a design-build competition aimed at addressing hunger through creativity. Teams build large-scale structures entirely out of canned food, which are then donated to the Capital Area Food Bank. This year’s event resulted in the collection of 71,917 cans for distribution to individuals and families experiencing food insecurity across the region.
KCCT designer Colin Murray led the concept and execution of The Dumpinator, a dynamic interpretation of this year’s theme of Construction Tools and Equipment. The structure combined playful design with technical precision.
Founded, headquartered, and certified as a Longtime Resident Business in the District of Columbia, KCCT has a longstanding commitment to civic engagement in the city. The firm actively participates in initiatives that connect design with meaningful community outcomes.
