U.S. Department of State, State Annex 2

KCCT's adaptive reuse conversion of a 1950's apartment building into a secure office building for the U.S. Department of State Office of Information Programs and Services sought to consolidate the division's staff, increase workplace efficiency, and meet the office's specialized business and operations requirements. Each floor now accommodates two suites incorporating "streets" that serve as circulation, utility, and communications systems corridors. The standardized layout of each floor maintains a sense of continuity between levels and facilitated the fast-track design schedule. Special design features include open storage suites for classified material, wire management design incorporating fiber optic data and communication, and systems flexibility for anticipated growth.
