U.S. Department of State Delegate's Lounge

The Delegates’ Lounge supports two auditoriums and meeting rooms within the Department of State headquarters. The open and inviting design indicates the transparency of our government. The renovation changed the area into a warm environment where visitors can see through the lounge from the public corridor to view the magnificent 20-foot bronze sculpture, "The Expanding Universe", in the courtyard that had been virtually hidden over the years by walls and gates. The designers set translucent glass beside small seating areas to provide intimate places for privacy. Custom carpeting and oak paneled walls contribute to the intimate atmosphere during the many ceremonial functions held in the space.
