Harrisburg Transportation Center

The adaptive reuse of this historic structure transforms an original 1887 rail station into a modern mixed-use transportation center, including food service and commercially leased office space components. The complete urban design for the station site integrated all of the new facilities with the city and with the other historic structures on the site. The challenge of the project was that the buildings were in such decrepit condition and the original drawings were long lost that new drawings had to be produced revealing the beauty of the past while developing a modern usable facility. The transportation program called for rail passenger service, rail freight and baggage service, intercity bus terminal, passenger drop off and parking facilities.
