The design included staff housing, marine security guard quarters, and the Consul General's residence on a new 20-acre (8.09 hectares) consulate compound. The staff housing component includes 47 one-bedroom units, 12 two-bedroom units, 20 hotel rooms, and an American club, cafeteria and commissary. Masonry and stucco clad exterior façades complement the other buildings on the compound. Building orientation and fenestration respond to detailed solar analysis. Deep balconies with sunshades offer private outdoor space and shade to minimize energy consumption.
