National Building Museum

Given the monumentality of the building completed in 1887 and strict museum standards for temperature (70°F +/- 2 degrees) and humidity (50% +/-5%) control, the interior renovation of the National Building Museum addressed the air sensitivity of the galleries. KCCT developed a system of individual air handling units for 45 galleries and phased their implementation over a period of ten years. The specially designed air handling units are housed in acoustically design architectural enclosures within each gallery, which follow the profile of the historic arches supporting the gallery vault.
