American Pharmacists Association (APhA) Perimeter Security

Nestled between the Department of State (DOS)and the National Mall the APhA headquarters building, designed by eminent architect John Russell Pope in 1934, is a notable example of Beaux-Arts architectural style in the nation’s capital.  At the request of the Department of State (DOS) KCCT developed a Perimeter Security Improvement Plan and architectural designs respectful of the architecture of the building, its subsequent addition, and the exceptional location of the building near the Lincoln Memorial.

The Perimeter Security consists of a series of elegant protective fences and guard booths amid an enhanced streetscape and landscape along 22nd and 23rd streets.  The elements composing the fences, metal and stone, are inspired in details of the existing structures.  In addition, the design provides for improved site signage and lighting, and the restoration of the historic gardens fronting the building along Constitution Avenue.
